I grew up in rural Tennessee with a Colombian mother and an American father and studied Experimental Theater in New York City and Film Directing in Berlin. My films and performances depict realms with fantastical cultural customs, codes or methods of communication, which unsettle or reframe the notion of the other. I’m inspired by real places and people and I often work with untrained actors and set my narratives in unconventional locations. In my stories, individuals without a common language must find ways to communicate with one another. I create “made-up culturez” in order for the educated/uneducated, wealthy/poor, white/of color, liberal/conservative, male/female, straight/queer populations to dialogue with one another.
